Tax Services for International Students in Vancouver BC

We assist international students about their status in Canada and tax obligations they may have. According to Canada Revenue Agency if you are an international student studying in Canada, you may have to file a Canadian income tax return. Therefore you must determine your residency status to know how you will be taxed in Canada.

You may learn your residency status directly from Canada Revenue Agency web site. Related web site link is http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/nnrsdnts/ndvdls/stdnts-eng.html#residency

Many international students who study or carry on research in Canada do establish significant residential ties with Canada because they are often supported by Canadian-source grants that cover several years of study or research.

You are a resident of Canada for tax purposes if you establish significant residential ties with Canada.

You are a non-resident of Canada for tax purposes if you do not establish significant residential ties with Canada and you're here for less than 183 days during the year.

Canada Revenue Agency has detailed information for International Students
at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/nnrsdnts/ndvdls/ntl-eng.html

If you are in Canada as an international student, it is important that you understand what your rights, entitlements, and obligations are under Canada's tax system. It is your responsibility to verify your income tax status each year, and to make sure you pay the correct amount of taxes.

SIN (Social Insurance Number) or Individual Tax Number
